Choreographer and proprietor of Long Island City venue Green Space Valerie Green share's her experience hosting our New York debut show last may.

It was my pleasure to be a collaborator and venue host for last May’s Vice Versa at Green Space. I loved exploring the concept of Rock/Paper/Scissors through the medium of dance, music, and visual art. I truly enjoyed meeting the other visual artists, musicians, and dancer. All were so talented, open and invested in bringing their concepts on the theme and talents into this collaborative production. The intensive format added to the excitement. We were lucky to have such a great time together, and to be able to trust each other on this collaborative adventure. I made three phrases, one for each concept of rock, paper, and scissors, along with sets of improvisation concepts driven through word prompts literally pulled out of a hat in the moment.
While exhausting it was also very gratifying and exciting to see the work created over the weekend and to be able to share it with friends and community members. The experience was playful with the many improvisational structures, and open to the immediacy of the “now” moment and the unknown. It was exciting for me to be not only a choreographer but a performer - dancer in the work, and lend an almost outside eye about the arc of the work. I am rarely performing these days so it was fun to be back on the stage exploring these prompts. I always love seeing groups use Green Space in unique ways, and the giant visual art flats lent itself to creating an exciting participatory art piece/set. Rock/Paper/Scissors was an exhilarating adventure and moment in time, a performance art work exemplifying the idea of impermanence.
